We also wanted a product made in the USA with an emphasis on materials, engineering and manufacturing quality. For us, it is about knowing how the product is built and choosing a scrubber designed with long-term use in mind.
A Different Approach to Scrubbing a Grill.
Instead of conventional wire bristles, the Smarter Scrubber uses a scrubbing surface made from food-safe welded stainless-steel chainmail backed by food-grade silicone.
According to the Smarter Scrubber team, multiple types of chainmail were tested before welded stainless steel was selected for its strength and durability.
For best performance and longevity, do not use the scrubber on a blazing-hot grill or expose it directly to extreme high heat.
Engineering Was Part of the Story From the Beginning.
The Smarter Scrubber team worked with Destin from Smarter Every Day, an engineer known for exploring how things work and for his interest in American manufacturing.
The goal was not simply to remove traditional bristles. The cleaning surface also had to be strong, durable and effective on real grill grates. The result is a welded stainless-steel chainmail scrubber designed to clean aggressively without relying on conventional wire bristles.
Then The Barbecue Lab Put It to the Test.
We believed in the Smarter Scrubber before this comparison. Seeing it perform so well in a side-by-side test gave us another reason to be excited about our choice.

Why Was the Smarter Scrubber Made?
The Smarter Scrubber was created by JJGeorge's John Youngblood and Destin Sandlin of Smarter Every Day. Their project began with a goal to develop a safer alternative to traditional wire-bristle grill brushes, while also taking on the challenge of manufacturing the product in the United States.
That turned into a multi-year engineering and manufacturing project. Along the way, they developed tooling, worked through supply-chain challenges and built manufacturing equipment to help bring more of the production process under their control.
Why we're sharing their story: Pro Grill did not invent or manufacture the Smarter Scrubber. We chose to partner with the people who did. Understanding how and why they built it is a big part of why we feel comfortable putting the Pro Grill name on the brush and recommending it to our customers.
