Grill Cleaning

1. How often should I have my BBQ grill professionally cleaned?

For most homeowners, professional cleaning once or twice a year is a good schedule. Grills used several times a week may need service more often. You can also read our guide to how often a BBQ should be cleaned and our grill maintenance guide for care between professional cleanings.

2. What does a professional BBQ grill cleaning include?

Pro Grill cleans much more than the cooking grates. The grill is disassembled so burners, heat plates, briquette trays, the firebox, drip system, cooking surfaces, and exterior can be cleaned. The technician can also identify worn components while the grill is apart. Learn more about our professional BBQ grill cleaning service or see actual results in our before and after gallery.

3. Can I just burn the grease off my grill?

Running the grill on high can burn residue from the cooking surface, but it does not remove grease and debris deeper inside the grill. We explain this in more detail in our article about cleaning a grill with high heat.

4. What cleaning products does Pro Grill use?

Pro Grill uses professional cleaning equipment and non toxic, biodegradable degreasers to remove grease and buildup. Our grill cleaning service page explains more about the professional cleaning process.

5. Do you clean Traeger pellet grills and smokers?

Yes. Pellet grills require attention to parts such as the firepot, heat deflector, drip tray, auger area, and temperature system. Visit our Traeger repair and service page for more information.

6. How long does professional grill cleaning take?

Service time depends on the size, condition, and type of grill. A heavily used built in grill will generally take longer than a smaller freestanding grill. Visit our BBQ cleaning page to learn more about what is included.

7. Does grill cleaning remove rust?

Cleaning can remove surface buildup and some light oxidation, but it cannot restore metal that has already deteriorated from corrosion. If components are badly rusted, they may need replacement. Our grill repair service can help when parts need attention.

8. Can you clean a grill that has not been used in several years?

Yes. Older grills can often be cleaned and returned to regular use. We recommend inspecting the burners, ignition system, gas components, and other parts at the same time. You may also find our article on cleaning a grill after long periods of inactivity helpful.

9. Can professional cleaning help reduce grill flare ups?

Yes. Heavy grease buildup can contribute to flare ups. Removing grease from the firebox, heat plates, briquette trays, and drip system can help. Learn more in our guide to grease buildup and our article about BBQ grease fires.

10. Do you clean built in outdoor kitchen grills?

Yes. Built in grills and outdoor kitchens are a major part of our service. Our technicians perform the cleaning at your home without removing the grill. We also provide outdoor kitchen and BBQ island services.

BBQ Repair

11. Why won't my grill ignite?

Common causes include clogged burner ports, a weak ignition battery, damaged electrodes, worn ignition wires, or a failed ignition module. Pro Grill can diagnose the problem during a BBQ repair visit.

12. Should I repair my grill or replace it?

It depends on the age, condition, brand, availability of replacement parts, and estimated repair cost. Built in grills are often worth repairing because replacement may involve additional outdoor kitchen work. Compare our BBQ repair services with our grill replacement options.

13. Why is one side of my grill hotter than the other?

Uneven heat can be caused by clogged burner ports, worn burners, damaged heat plates, or briquette trays that are no longer distributing heat properly. A grill inspection can help determine the cause.

14. What should I do if I smell gas around my grill?

Turn the burner controls off and shut off the gas supply. Do not continue using the grill until the cause has been identified. Schedule a professional BBQ grill inspection before using it again.

15. What grill brands does Pro Grill repair?

We service most major brands including Lynx, Fire Magic, Weber, DCS, Viking, Napoleon, Lion BBQ, Blaze, Summerset, Bull, Twin Eagles, Alfresco, AOG, Turbo, Traeger, and many others. Visit our BBQ brands page for more information.

16. Can you repair an older or discontinued grill?

In many cases, yes. It depends on the condition of the grill and whether compatible replacement parts are still available. Our grill repair team can inspect the unit and determine what options are available.

17. Why are my grill flames yellow instead of blue?

Yellow or irregular flames can be related to dirty burner ports, airflow issues, burner deterioration, or another fuel delivery problem. If the grill is not burning normally, schedule professional grill repair.

18. Why does my grill take so long to heat up?

Slow heating can be caused by clogged or damaged burners, regulator issues, fuel supply problems, or deteriorated heat distribution components. Our BBQ repair service can diagnose poor heating and performance problems.

19. Can you replace grill burners?

Yes. We replace burners on many major grill brands when they are cracked, corroded, damaged, or producing an uneven flame. Burners are one of the components covered by our professional grill repair services.

20. Can you repair grill ignition switches and electrodes?

Yes. Ignition repairs may involve electrodes, batteries, wiring, switches, spark generators, or ignition modules. See the types of repairs we perform on our BBQ grill repair page.

Inspection & Grill Safety

21. What is included in a BBQ grill inspection?

A grill inspection evaluates the condition and operation of the grill, including burners, ignition components, cooking components, and visible gas related parts. Learn more about our BBQ grill inspection service.

22. Should I have a grill inspected when buying a home?

It can be worthwhile, especially with a built in outdoor kitchen where the age and maintenance history of the grill may not be known. A professional grill inspection can give you a better understanding of its condition.

23. What should I do if I find mold inside my grill?

Avoid cooking on the grill until the affected areas have been thoroughly cleaned. Heat alone is not a replacement for cleaning the inside of the grill. Read our article about using high heat to clean a grill for more information.

24. What should I do if rodents have been inside my grill?

Do not cook on the grill until it has been cleaned and inspected. Nesting material and debris can collect around burners and inside the firebox. We have a dedicated guide explaining what to do when you find mouse or rat droppings in your grill.

25. Can grease buildup cause a grill fire?

Heavy grease buildup can contribute to flare ups and unwanted fires. Read our guide to BBQ grease fires and our grill fire safety guide for additional information.

26. Is rust inside a grill a problem?

Light surface oxidation and severe corrosion are different. Burners, trays, grates, and other components that are heavily deteriorated should be evaluated and replaced when necessary. Our grill inspection service can help determine their condition.

27. How do I know when my grill burners need replacement?

Common signs include holes, cracking, heavy corrosion, uneven flames, poor heating, or flames appearing where they should not. Visit our BBQ repair page to learn about burner and component replacement.

28. Should I clean my grill before the summer grilling season?

Yes. Seasonal cleaning removes old grease and debris and gives you an opportunity to identify worn parts before heavier use. Our grill maintenance guide has additional tips for keeping your grill in good condition between services.
